Mooncake (月餅) is a a traditional Chinese pastry that is eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is for Lunar worship and moon watching. They are typically filled with Lotus bean paste, and may include boiled duck egg yolk. They are flaky, yet dense and hard pastries, and often formed into the shape of a circle(moon), but can be square. Traditionally, each cake is stamped with a Chinese symbol meaning ‘Harmony’ or ‘Longevity.’ The moon, flowers, rabbits, or Lady Chang'e are also common decorations on top of the mooncake.
